Sponsorships are always a priority. We know the children you can sponsor. Every year someone from the BCP, or someone working with us, goes to Bwindi, talks to the children, takes their photos, hears about their joys and heartbreak from the school. Please donate. Write a check, or click the donate button below.
Buildings There are not enough dorms. The children sleep two to a bed, and many have bedrolls they put down on the floors of classrooms each night. There are not enough classrooms. There is no dining hall and no place except the schoolyard for everyone to congregate. Funds for purchasing more land and then for additional buildings are desperately needed.
    FUNDS FOR LAND NEEDED URGENTLY...
"Funds Needed urgently for Land Purchase".

Ten acres are for sale immediately adjacent to the school.  In initial discussions, the owners had offered to sell us 4 acres at $5000 per acre - a goal we recently made.  But the story has now become more complicated.  Welcome to Africa.

The 10 acres were recently inherited by a group of siblings who have been arguing about how to sell it.
Now they have decided they will sell the land only as a single, ten acre, parcel.

This presents both a challenge and an opportunity. An opportunity because with ten acres, we would immediately have room for the much needed expansion of additional dorms, classrooms, etc.  Equally, if not even more important, we could,  over the next 5-7 years, become a fully self sustaining school with projects providing skills for graduates, food to feed the entire population of the school and revenue to permit orphans and children from extreme poverty to find a home, an education and a vocation.

A challenge because without this acreage, the school will eventually have to "splinter" into two or more locations or be moved completely - a massive project - and it may be difficult to find a large parcel near the village.  We need this location in order to be near the tourists, who provide revenue for the school, and need to be centrally located in order for day students to have a reasonable walk to school. Land is at a premium in Bwindi because of tourism and because much of it is very hilly. Little is available for sale.

We have made the initial $10,000 match and are thus holding $20,000.  But now we are looking for an additional $30,000 to make the $50,000 total. Difficult, but a worthy goal.

If you are looking for a year-end write off or simply want to help through a permanent impact donation,
please contribute now.  Again, the goal is now an additional $30,000. Please remember that your company may also do matching funds.

(For those who gave for the initial, $10,000 match, if we do not make goal and thus cannot buy the land, we will contact you about returning your contribution.)
These are photos of the two sustainable projects started in 2011.  We need to increase them dramatically in size.  A graduate student in Economics may come in the summer to help us put together a developmental time frame with financial need and goals to accomplish full sustainability.  IF we have the land, we need to make the poultry project ten (20?) times the current size.  With more land, we could grow all the beans and other vegetables needed to feed the school.

Sustainable/Green Stove Currently all cooking for the entire school is done in one, large pot over a fire.
We hope to work with the ECOLIFE Foundation (www.ecolifefoundation.org) on a Patsari stove, large enough to accommodate the school’s needs.

These stoves use significantly less fuel, decreasing cooking costs and preserving trees and dramatically decreasing the emission of greenhouse gases and black carbon.

Teacher Training All the teachers and the headmaster know they need more training, better training. We would like to make this possible.

And….
