Mellen has graduated from secondary, having overcome some really difficult situations. Her family was torn apart by the death of her father. She had a serious medical condition in her senior year (A Levels-S6) which kept her from attending classes for a month. She is healthy now. Her friends coached her and she managed a very good score on her National Exams. Having met all these challenges, she now qualifies for Diploma study and would like to pursue Engineering.

She is tenacious and has won many battles so far. You can help her with this challenge by supporting her in a Diploma program. Entering with A Level credentials, this will probably be a 2 year program. Two years of study will let her be a productive, independent young woman. Since she is applying to a few schools and we do not know the outcome of applying for scholarship yet, please call to talk about her needs.

We are more than happy to tell you the most current information and costs. She will be a huge asset to the community, if she has financial support. You can be the one to make this happen!

ADERAH

Aderah is an extremely good student. In her words, “my life is an amazing journey”. It began with a sponsorship in primary school, being sponsored through secondary and to the best Nursing School in Kampala. She graduated first in her class and was awarded a certificate of merit.

After earning a Nursing Certificate, Uganda has a mandatory work requirement. Aderah has completed working two years in a charity clinic which treats children in Buwundo. The next step will be to upgrade credentials to Diploma, allowing her to “improve the health quality of people around my community”.

Her passion for nursing just continues to grow. She is considering a major in General Medical Nursing or Radiology. Researching her options is consuming her hours away from work.

The Diploma course is one and one half years. A sponsor would allow her to devote all her time to her studies. This remarkable young woman is eager to serve the population of Uganda. You can help her!

Please contact Jan or Jim to learn specific financial requirements for Aderah.

Derick is entering S1 this year from a primary school where no one expects to enter secondary school. It is in a poor, rural area in Bwindi; with no role models to inspire students. His graduating class at the primary school was challenged by the Counselor at Bishop Comboni to perform in Division 1 on their National Exams; a sponsor would be sought. He is the only graduating student who pulled off Division 1 scores from that school in 2019.

His goal is to be a doctor, which may change as he has a chance to see the myriad other professional options. He likes Biology, English and Math. He clearly has the tenacity to make the most of secondary education. As the oldest in his family, he will be a role model for his siblings as well as for the entire village. Derick has the potential and a sponsor will make his future bright. This young pioneer, from a school of low expectations, needs a sponsor to care and cheer him on!

You can make a huge difference in his life!
